Poonam is a director for stage and screen.
Poonam is currently enjoying working on her feature projects as Writer/Director: Dark Comedy OH BABY and Thriller LAKE AT SUMMER.
Poonam is also a visiting director on the Genesis Theatre Design Programme.
She was the dramaturg on dance theatre piece ROOTS TO RISE, UK tour for Without Walls, choreographed by Nandita Shankardass.
Poonam’s Film London produced short film HOME GIRL by Iman Qureshi was officially selected for over 45 film festivals internationally, including BFI FLARE and UNDERWIRE.
Poonam recently completed her first episodes of HOLLYOAKS for Lime Pictures.
Her theatre company, 3Fates, with Alice Malia and Dina Mousawi, used a raw and poetic DIY devising style to tell personal stories, including 'RETURN', (NT Studio, The Yard, Soho Theatre) 'TO CLOSE YOUR EYES IS TO TRAVEL' The Yard Theatre and ‘DARK RIVER’ Hightide Genesis Lab.
For theatre, Poonam most recently directed a HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA adaptation with Gurpreet Bhatti and NOOR at Southwark Playhouse for which she received an MGC Futures Award. Other current projects include EMPIRE OF THE MIND by Satinder Chohan.
Passionate about new work, Poonam has directed for theatre companies including National Theatre Studio, Kali, Hampstead, Royal Court, Soho Theatre, Theatre Royal Stratford East, The Yard Theatre, Birmingham Rep, Manchester Contact and Glasgow Arches.
Poonam’s training includes the National Theatre Studio Directors Programme, Staff Directing at the Young Vic, Royal Shakespeare Company and West End. She is an Alumni of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, NY, BAFTA Connect member and the National Film and Television School.
Poonam was a Women in Film and TV Mentee in 2021 mentored by Jane Villiers of Sayle Screen.
